Don Bruce Lane, 85, of Kingsport, passed away Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at Holston Valley Medical Center. He was born February 11, 1932 in Kingsport, to the late, William and Hettie Edwards Lane.Don was a wonderful, loving and loyal son, husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather and brother. He was a selfless and caring man who will be greatly missed. Don enjoyed being outdoors, hiking, walking and riding his bicycle on the Green Belt.Mr. Lane retired from the Kingsport Press following forty years of service. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served during the Korean War and obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant. Don attended Crossroads United Methodist Church.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Dorothy Lane, Betty Lane, Gertrude Lane Smith, Mattie Long, Reba Sams and Fleeta Jayne; brothers, Clarence Lane, Carson Lane, Bill Lane and Ross C. Lane.Those left to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife of sixty-two years, Phyllis Carter Lane; daughters, Debra Lane, Johnson City, TN, Melinda Blackwell and husband, Johnny; grandsons, Jonathon Matthew Lane Blackwell, Heath Jordan Lane Blackwell and wife, Lydia, Johnson City, TN; sister, Margaret Creasman; several nieces and nephews also survive.The family will receive friends 1:00-2:00 pm Saturday, September 23, 2017 in the Fireside Room at Oak Hill Funeral & Cremation Services.A Graveside and Committal Service will follow at 2:30 pm at Oak Hill Memorial Park in the Garden of Everlasting Life with Pastor Randy Lantz officiating. Full military honors will be conducted by The American Legion Hammond Post #3/#265. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.The family extends their sincere gratitude to the staffs of Asbury Place, Holston Valley Medical Center, Holston Valley Hospice and Dr. Robert Funke and his staff for their compassionate care of Don during his final days.The care of Don Bruce Lane and his family has been entrusted to the staff of Oak Hill Funeral & Cremation Services.
