Edward Conrad Hansen, age 92, of Kingsport TN sailed away from Bristol Memorial Hospital early in the morning of August 10, 2018. He was born on February 23, 1926, in Chicago Illinois the son of the late Edward and Anna Hansen. He graduated in 1943 from Walnut Hills High School, one year early, so that he could join the Navy. He called this the best decision of his life. During World War II he served in both the Atlantic and the Pacific theaters aboard the destroyer escort the USS Weeden. With the help of the GI Bill he became the first one in his family to attend college graduating from the University of Cincinnati in 1951 with a degree in Civil Engineering. He worked for Proctor & Gamble for 30 years. He often said, he lived the “American dream.”He married Marion Price on April 14, 1950, which he called the second best decision of his life. In addition to engineering he loved photography, for which he won several awards, golfing, sailing, and his USS Weeden reunion group of which he was the prime organizer.Mr. Hansen was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Kingsport.He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-eight years, Marion Price Hansen; his daughter and son-in-law Marjean and Edward Montgomery, Mt. Carmel, TN; his son and daughter-in-law Edward and Sandra Hansen, Holland, MI; four grandchildren, Steven Hansen, Robin Paul Hansen, Matthew Montgomery and Meredith Montgomery; four great granddaughters, Madeline, Lillian, Vivienne and Margo; two sisters Diann Biltz, McMinnville, OR and Paula Jansen, Elgin IL.The family will receive friends from 3:00-4:00 pm on Sunday, August 12, 2018, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 4:00 pm with The Reverend James Bangle officiating.A Graveside Service will held at 1:00 pm Monday, August 13, 2018, at Oak Hill Memorial Park in the Garden of Devotion. Military Rites will be conducted by The American Legion Hammond Post #3 and Gate City Post #265. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in Edward’s honor be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 800 Broad Street, Kingsport, TN 37660 and to spend some special time with your dad.The care of Edward Conrad Hansen and his family has been entrusted to the staff of Oak Hill Funeral & Cremation Services.
