Elna Lee Bartlett Butler, 88, of Kingsport, died on Friday, June 8, 2018 after a brief illness. Born on April 3, 1930 in Putnam County to the late Bernice O. Bartlett and Carrie E. Byrne Bartlett, she had resided in Kingsport since 1951.In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Robert T. Butler, Jr., brother, Frank H. Bartlett; and sisters, Frances B. Davis and Wylene B. Gillespie; and great-grandson, Jonah Michael Cervenec.She is survived by daughter, Beverly (Junior) Landes of Kingsport, sons Tom (Susan) Butler of Lexington, KY, Philip (Kim) Butler of Knoxville, and Bill (Eileen) Butler of Kingsport, 12 grandchildren: Katie (Mike) Cervenec, Lane (Kathleen) Butler, Heidi (Zak) Hays, Reese Butler, Jake Butler, Josh Butler, Callie Butler, Emma Butler, Mark (Morri) Landes, Scott (Ann) Landes, Susan (Josh) Kas, and Jennifer (Drew) Witt; great-grandchildren, Penelope, Jude & Cade Cervenec, Grant, Scarlett, and Georgia Butler, Hamilton & Cooper Landes, Evee & Sylvia Kas, Jonah and Morgan Witt; and many nieces and nephews.Elna was an active member of the Northeast Church of Christ (formerly Watauga Street Church of Christ) for over 65 years. She taught many children's Bible classes, participated in the Bible correspondence program, and cooked many meals for members in need. Elna was known as being a great cook, having a green-thumb as a gardener, and excelling at many crafts over the years. She and Robert enjoyed golf and traveling - especially visiting their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Mom set high standards for her family and sometimes we, as her children, lived up to those standards. Seriously, both Mom and Dad always provided us with a loving and caring life. We will always strive to carry on their legacy.The family would like to thank all of the staff at Preston Place II for their loving care for our Mom for the last 4 months. Also, a special thanks to Maxine Lyons for her companionship and care for Elna during the last few years of life.In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Regional Resource Center (2303 N. John B. Dennis Hwy, Kingsport, TN 37660) or to the Northeast Church of Christ (2217 Beechnut Dr., Kingsport, TN 37660).The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM in the J. Wayne Hamilton Memorial Chapel of Oak Hill Funeral Home on Saturday, June 16, 2018. A funeral service will follow with Minister Jay Cline officiating.
