Ms. Frances Simmons Powers, 93, of Rogersville, passed away Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at the residence of her daughter. She was born July 12, 1924 to the late, William Hobart Simmons and Hassie Sturgill Simmons.Frances was a loving, caring and nurturing daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She was a devoted homemaker and family oriented. She enjoyed sewing, traveling and serving as a volunteer for various organizations in her community.She was a member of the J.P. Stevens Women’s Club, Women’s Auxilary American Legion Hammond Post #3 and a Charter member of the Community Clothes Closet in Church Hill, TN. Frances enjoyed delivering “Meals On Wheels” and serving as a volunteer at the Senior Citizens Center in Mount Carmel, TN.Ms. Powers was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Church Hill, TN and a member of the United Methodist Women’s Circle.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Kelley Powers; son, Wm. Kelley Powers, Jr. and her brother, Bill Ray Simmons.Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Pamela Mays (Ben), Penny Powers, Paula Keith (Rick) and Patti Shanks (Michael); seven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; one niece and two nephews.The family will receive friends 4:00-5:45 pm Friday, September 29, 2017 at First United Methodist Church, Church Hill, TN. A Funeral Service will follow at 6:00 pm with Pastor Charles Kilbourne officiating. Music will be under the direction of the First U.M.C. Choir.A Graveside and Committal Service will be conducted at 11:00 am Saturday, September 30, 2017 at Oak Hill Memorial Park in the Garden of Everlasting Life. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.The family extends their sincere appreciation to the staff of Amedisys Hospice for their compassionate care of our mother.In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in Frances’ honor be made to the First United Methodist Church, 119 Grandview Street, Church Hill, TN 37642 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.The care of Ms. Frances Simmons Powers and her family has been entrusted to the staff of Oak Hill Funeral & Cremation Services.
