Jesus appeared in His majestic purple robe and carried Hal to heaven. No more pain, no more suffering; just eternal rest.Hal M. Newman, Jr., 88, of Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, February 9, 2018, at Indian Path Medical Center after a lengthy illness.He was born in Dandridge, TN and had lived in Kingsport most of his life. Mr. Newman graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School in 1947 and attended ETSU and also served in the U. S. Naval Reserves. He retired from the Kingsport Press. After his retirement, Hal also worked in Baltimore, MD as a plant supervisor, a plant manager in Asheville, NC and Interstate Graphics in Johnson City.Mr. Newman was an active member of Crossroads United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Crusaders and also worked with various mission projects.He was an avid hunter, fisherman, gunsmith, marksman and enjoyed woodworking and storytelling. His family considered him the “gadget man” who could fix anything, a jack of all trades and master of several.He was preceded in death by his parents Hal and Irene Bishop Newman, Sr.Surviving are his loving wife of 67 years, Shirley Hilton Newman; daughter, Sandra Gates and husband, Ralph; son, Jeff Newman and wife, Chris; grandchildren, Jennifer Renderos and husband, Ren and J.P. Newman; step grandchild, Amanda MacCalla and husband, Jon; great grandchildren, Felicity, Brody, Caleb, Ezra and Gwyndolyn; brother, Earl Newman and wife, Sue; many nieces and nephews; special friends, Shirley Carter, Amy Pace, Steve and Barbara Deakins and Dave and Jean Anderson.The family will receive friends from 9:30 am - 11 am Tuesday, February 13, 2018 in the J. Wayne Hamilton Memorial Chapel at Oak Hill Funeral and Cremation Services.A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 11 am in the chapel with Pastor Randy Lantz officiating.A Graveside Service will follow in Oak Hill Memorial Park in the Garden of Everlasting Life. Pallbearers will be Jeff Newman, Ralph Gates, J.P. Newman, Ren Renderos, Earl Newman, and Mitch Newman.
