Jean Sloan

Jean Sloan, 79, of Kingsport, passed away Saturday, July 22, 2017 at Holston Valley Medical Center. She was born February 2, 1938 in Scott County, VA to the late Evan and Louise Arnold Phillips.Hazel was a loving, kind and very wise lady who would literally give you the “shirt off her back.” She was always open to new ideas and she enjoyed cooking, trying new recipes and working in her flower garden.Mrs. Sloan was a retired Bookkeeper and attended Ida Primitive Baptist Church and Gravelly Baptist Church.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Georgia Whitmore, Faye Sloan, Dot Crockett and May Phillips; brothers, Ralph Phillips and Bill Phillips.Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Dedreia Colangelo-Whiffen; grandsons, Joseph Colangelo, John Whiffen and Zachary Whiffen; sisters, Lorene Salley, Wilma Phillips, Mary Price and husband, Wendell; several nieces and nephews also survive.A private Family Graveside Service will be held at a later date.The care of Jean Sloan and her family has been entrusted to the staff of Oak Hill Funeral & Cremation Services.Read Obituary
