Joe Bruce Flannagan, 86, a former resident of Kingsport, passed away Thursday, September 7, 2017 at Parkwest Hospital, Knoxville, TN. He was born October 10, 1930 in Bristol, VA to the late, Quilla and Hazel Gunning Flannagan.Joe was a loving, patient, generous and frugal man who was a “free spirit.” He loved automobiles and enjoyed working on cars and lawnmowers. Mr. Flannagan retired from the Kingsport Press following forty-five years of service. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a member of the Charles DeWitt Byrd V.F.W. Post #3382, Kingsport.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandchildren, Erin Michelle Esteppe and Aaron Joel Esteppe; special long-time companion, June Caldwell.Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Claresa Esteppe and husband, Jeff; granddaughter, Lexi Esteppe; sisters, Betty Childress and Suzzan Ford; niece, Shanna Light; nephews, Mike Childress (Diane), Donnie Childress (Margaret) and Shane Ford.The family will receive friends Sunday, September 10, 2017 from 1:30-2:30 pm in the Fireside Room at Oak Hill Funeral & Cremation Services.An Entombment and Committal Service will follow at 3:00 pm at Church Hill Memory Gardens with Dr. Phil Hoskins officiating. Full military honors will be conducted by The American Legion Hammond Post #3/#265.The family extends their sincere appreciation to the staffs of Parkwest Medical Center and Ben Atchley Veterans Home, Knoxville.
