Lillie Mae Laek, 90, of Kingsport, passed away Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at Preston Place II. She was born September 17, 1927 in Adairville, KY to the late, Alfred and Estelle Butt.Lillie was a great daughter, wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her favorite past-times were cooking, crafts, entertaining, singing, playing bingo and church activities especially her time spent with the Martha Circle at C.H.P.C. Her children and grandchildren brought her the greatest joy in life.Her employment history included; North Electric Company, Galion, OH (1945-47), Young Fashions, Galion, Ohio (1961-63), J.C. Penney, Galion, Ohio (1963-68) and she worked as a Kindergarten Aid in Galion, OH (1969-74).Mrs. Laek was a member of Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church, Kingsport, TN.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harley Mason Laek; sister, Betty (Butt) Scheffler; brother, Paul Butt; nephews, Mike and Gary Scheffler; daughter-in-law, Susan (Wisler) Laek and son-in-law, Timothy Smith.Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Stephen (Victoria) Laek, Mark (Doris) Laek and Timothy Laek; daughter, Penelope (Laek) Smith; grandchildren, Toby (Kristen) Laek, Anthony (Casey) Laek, Livia Laek, Victoria (Jeff) Cipro, Bailey (Rudy) Mies, Adam (Caroline) Laek, Hannah Laek, Haley Laek, Dustin (Dana) Smith, Whitney (Adam) Trejo, Abby (Cory) Guest, Nicholas Crowley and Parker Crowley; nine great-grandchildren.A Graveside and Committal Service will be conducted at 1:00 pm Sunday, October 1, 2017 at Oak Hill Memorial Park in the Garden of Meditation.A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 2:00 pm at Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church with Rev. Shane Smith and Rev. Tom Phillips officiating. The family will receive friends in the sanctuary following the Memorial Service.The family extends their sincere appreciation to the staffs of Preston Place Suites and Preston Place II for their compassionate care of our mother.In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in Lillie’s honor be made to Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church, 213 Colonial Heights Road, Kingsport, TN 37663.The care of Lillie Mae Laek and her family has been entrusted to the staff of Oak Hill Funeral & Cremation Services.
