Martha Sue Gibson, 78, of Church Hill, TN went to be with the Lord Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at Holston Valley Medical Center. She was born April 23, 1940, in Knoxville, TN to the late Joe and Mary Louise Hunt. Martha was a loving and caring mother and grandmother who focused on her family, their needs and their activities while they were growing up. She enjoyed the holidays, especially Christmas, where she lovingly cooked for her family. She enjoyed listening to music on the internet and working in her flowers. Martha was especially fond of her Boston Terrier, Baxter. Mrs. Gibson was a member of West View Missionary Baptist Church and retired as Manager of the Burger Chef Restaurant following twenty-seven years of service. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Ray Gibson. Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Cheryl Ann Robinette, Michael Ray Gibson and Donna Jo Nelson and husband, Billy; grandchildren, Monica Ann Gibson, Paul Carland and wife, Kelly, Carla Carland, Emily Robinette, Christy Gibson, Monika Pounders and Ashley Gibson; great-grandchildren, Henry Carland, Piper Carland, Addison Taylor, Alyssa Garrett, Aubree Garrett, Alli Jo Pounders, Newt Pounders, Anderson Pounders and Willow Pounders; and very special friend, Paula Sucholbiak. The family will receive friends 5:00-6:45 pm on Friday, June 15, 2018, in the J. Wayne Hamilton Memorial Chapel of Oak Hill Funeral & Cremation Services. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 7:00 pm with Pastor Mike Stout officiating. A Graveside Service will be conducted at 1:00 pm Saturday, June 16, 2018, at Oak Hill Memorial Park in the Garden of the Last Supper. Serving as pallbearers, Michael Gibson, John H. Pope, Jerome Light, Bryan Martin, Bascom Daugherty, and James Oliver. Honorary pallbearers, Jerry L. Hodge, Bob Gott, Paul Brummitt, and Bill Hartgrove. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in Martha’s honor be made to the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Kingsport, P.O. Box 784, Kingsport, TN 37662. The care of Martha Sue Gibson and her family has been entrusted to the staff of Oak Hill Funeral & Cremation Services.
