Mary Hickam, 85, of Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, July 15, 2018, at Wexford House after a lengthy illness.She was a lifelong resident of Kingsport. Mrs. Hickam graduated from Lynn View High School in 1952. She worked at Mason Dixon in the Accounting Department. Mrs. Hickam was co-owner of Hickam Grocery with her husband, J.D. Hickam, where she was best known for her hot dogs. After closing the store in 1990, she went to work part time for Bloomingdale Utility District. Mrs. Hickam was also active in the Bloomingdale Ruritan Club as the contact person for the Activities Center rental. She was a member of Vermont United Methodist Church where she enjoyed teaching the children’s Sunday School Class for 49 years and was the Church Treasurer for many years. Mrs. Hickam’s hobby’s included cooking, reading, working with flowers and making hundreds of baby quilts.She was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Hickam; parents, Oscar and Luella Harr Ottinger; sister, Ruth Jones and brother, J.T. Ottinger.Surviving are her son, Roger Hickam and wife, Sheri and several nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 pm Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at Oak Hill Funeral and Cremation Services in the J. Wayne Memorial Chapel.A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 7 pm with Pastor Jeremy McMillan officiating. A Graveside Service will be held at 1 pm Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at East Lawn Memorial Park in the Garden of Faith. Pallbearers will be Jim Clark, Wade Childress, Tommy Blakley, Mack Pyle, Ken Breeding and Carl Oaks.
