Maxine “Maxie” Belcher, 97, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 9, 2018, at Wexford House. She was born November 6, 1920 in Blackwater, VA to the late, Marion and Alwilda Hill Johnson.Maxine was a loving, caring and giving lady of faith. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and crocheting. Her favorite past-times were reading her Bible and listening to Dr. Charles Stanley and Joel Osteen on television. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church, Kingsport.Mrs. Belcher retired from Westmoreland Coal Company as a phone operator following forty years of service.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Belcher; sisters, Laura Sullivan and Yvonne Johnson; brothers, Melvin, Curtis, A.J., Coy, Marion and Colonel Johnson.Those left to cherish her memory are Jack Mullins (Janet) and their daughter, Amber, Mark Shultz (Melinda) and their son, Evan; nieces, Mary Ruth McFadden, Joyce Rowe, Valerie Davis, Vonda Gardner and Cheryl Thomas; nephews, Curtis Johnson, Jr., Ronnie Johnson, Brian Johnson, Gene Sullivan and Paul Sullivan; several great nieces and nephews also survive.An Entombment and Committal Service will be conducted at 2:00 pm Tuesday, February 13, 2018, at Oak Hill Memorial Park in the Chapel Mausoleum. Her nephew, Dr. Brian Johnson will officiate.The family extends their sincere appreciation to the staff of Wexford House for their compassionate care of Maxine.In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in Maxine’s honor be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.The care of Maxine “Maxie” Belcher and her family has been entrusted to the staff of Oak Hill Funeral & Cremation Services.
