Paul E. Mellons

Paul E. Mellons, 88, of Kingsport, passed away Thursday, March 22, 2018, at Wexford House. He was born November 17, 1929, in Kingsport, to the late Jerry and Lura Jesse Mellons.Paul was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather who had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed gardening, boating, fishing and operating his CB radio. His handle was “The Old Doctor.”Mr. Mellons was Owner/Operator of Paul Mellons Ditching & Excavating Company. He was a member of First Apostolic Christian Church, Kingsport.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Lucille Mellons; maternal grandparents and paternal grandparents.Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of eighteen years, Maxie Johnson Mellons; daughters, Dena McConnell, Paula Collins (Larry) and Marlene Dillard (Chuck); step-daughters, Freda R. Salyers (Kyle), Yvonne Morris and Teresa Williams; step-sons, Garry Lawson (Sharon), Glen Lawson (Linda), Bobby Lawson and Ricky Carter; several grandchildren and step-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.The family will receive friends 1:00-2:00 pm Saturday, March 24, 2018, at Oak Hill Funeral & Cremation Services. The Funeral Service will be conducted at 2:00 pm in the J. Wayne Hamilton Memorial Chapel with David Spears and Pastor Tommy Benton officiating.The Graveside and Committal Service will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Family members will serve as pallbearers.The family extends their sincere gratitude to the staff of Wexford House especially Chris, for their compassionate care of Paul during his final days.
