Robert “R.C.” Hood, 81, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at his residence. He was born March 18, 1936, in Kingsport, to the late Taylor and Bessie Joyner Hood.R.C. was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who never met a stranger. He enjoyed camping, watching NASCAR and discussing politics. R.C. was an active member of the Republican Party. He also served as Sullivan County Commissioner for eight years.Mr. Hood was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army having served on the Presidential Honor Guard. He was a member of Nottingham United Methodist Church but was presently attending Higher Ground Baptist Church. R.C. was also a member of the Kingsport Masonic Lodge #688.He was employed at the Kingsport Press for several years and retired as owner of Hood’s Wholesale. R.C. was one of the founders of the Bloomingdale Volunteer Fire Department and was honored as “Fireman of the Year” in 1975.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister and eight brothers.Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Duane Rhoton Hood; daughter, Anita Jayne Hood; son, Robert Arthur Hood; grandchildren, Florica Hood, Jackson Hood, Lauren Hood McNew and Holly Hood; great-grandchildren, Oakley McNew, Hudson McNew and Lynley McNew; sisters, Martha Bledsoe and Cora Bobrosky (Mac).The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until 12:45 pm on Saturday, March 10, 2018, at Oak Hill Funeral & Cremation Services. A Masonic Service will be conducted at 1:00 pm in the J. Wayne Hamilton Memorial Chapel by the Kingsport Masonic Lodge # 688. A Celebration of Life Service will follow with Dr. Phil Hoskins officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Potters.The Graveside Service will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park in the Masonic Garden. Military honors will be conducted by the Hawkins County Color Guard and the Tennessee Army National Guard. Friends of the family will serve as pallbearers.The family extends their sincere gratitude to their neighbors and friends who have loved, prayed for and supported them during this difficult time.The care of Robert “R.C.” Hood and his family has been entrusted to the staff of Oak Hill Funeral & Cremation Services.
