Sarah Edline Goddard Campbell, 93, of Hickory passed away Thursday, February 8, 2018 at Trinity Ridge Nursing Home.Born April 7, 1924 in Estill Springs, TN, she was the daughter of the late Edward Levi Goddard and Maggie Olive Neal Goddard.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, John W. Campbell; and a sister, Betty Delzell.Sarah was a 1942 graduate of Winchester High School, attended Martin Methodist College in Pulaski, TN before attending and graduating with a degree in Home Economics from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville in 1946.She was a very active member in the American Association of University Women, Kingsport Chapter and served as President in 1955, active PTA member at Lincoln Elementary, active band parent and chaperone for Ross N. Robinson Jr. High and Dobyns Bennett High School bands. Sarah and her husband were enthusiastic members of the UT Alumni Association. She was an avid cook, seamstress, reader and gardener but her main joy was spending time with her large extended family during the holidays, family reunions and vacations. In 1996, Sarah moved to Hickory after the death of her husband to be closer to her grandchildren. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.She is survived by her son, John G. Campbell and wife Gail of Kingsport, TN; daughter, Sara C. Johnson and husband Bob of Hickory, NC; five grandchildren: Emily C. Boles and husband Tommy of Greensboro, NC, John D. Campbell and wife Sarita of Charlottesville, VA, Robyn J. Allen and husband Rodney of Winston Salem, NC, Ben Johnson of Orlando, FL, Will Johnson of Charlotte, NC; four great-grandchildren: Lizzie Grace, Liam, and Connor Allen all of Winston Salem, NC, Wit Boles of Greensboro, NC; two sisters: Margaret Fuller of Oak Ridge, TN, Nora Jo Campbell and husband Robert of Louisville, KY; a brother, Lee Edward Goddard and wife Gwen of Knoxville, TN; and a host of nieces and nephews.The Campbell and Johnson families will be forever grateful to the staff at Trinity Ridge for their loving care.The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 11, 2018 in the J. Wayne Hamilton Memorial Chapel at Oak Hill Funeral and Cremation Services with the Rev. Samuel Ward officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Memorial Park.The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the chapel from 1 – 2:00 p.m.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her honor to Mafair United Methodist Church, 1409 E. Center St., Kingsport, TN 37664 or to the Sarah Campbell Memorial Scholarship Fund at GKAD, 225 W.
