“To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord…” Virgie Salyer Robinson, 89, of Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at Holston Valley Medical Center. She was born in Russell County, VA to the late Scott and Annie Stevenson Salyer, and had lived in Kingsport most of her life. Mrs. Robinson was a 46 year member of Way of Life Baptist Church. The church was started in November 1971 in a little store building on Gravely Road; that was her little store, Virgie’s Grocery. She enjoyed her flowers, listening to gospel music, sewing and loved spending time with her family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, R.L. “Bob” Robinson; two infant sons; her youngest son, Ricky Robinson on April 29, 2018 and several brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Patsy (Willard) Ramey; 2 sons, Harold (Linda) Robinson and Tommy Robinson; daughter in law, Sherry Robinson; grandchildren, Brenda (Robert) Barnes, Chris (Louann) Robinson, Chad (Heather) Robinson, Tracy Fletcher, Brandon (Christy) Robinson, Paul (Niki) Robinson, Amber (Billy) Leonard and Joey (Jessica) Robinson; 13 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and special friends, Gladys Robinson and Marlene Lane. The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 pm Friday, June 29, 2018 at Way of Life Baptist Church, 319 Salvation Rd., Kingsport, TN 37660. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 7 pm with Pastor Johnny Gibson officiating. Music will be provided by Terry Christian, Louise Gibson and Linda Robinson. A Graveside Service will be held at 1 pm Saturday, June 30, 2018 at the Roller Cemetery (Bridwell Heights).Pallbearers will be Chris, Brandon, Joey, Chad and Paul Robinson, Billy Leonard, Robert Barnes and Wetzel Forrester. Honorary Pallbearer will be Willard Ramey. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:45. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Way of Life Baptist Church, 319 Salvation Rd., Kingsport, TN 37660. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Tommy for the care he supported tirelessly for “Mom and Mamaw,” to Dr. Jeffrey Vaughn, Dr. Meade, and the Nurses on 3rd Floor Wilcox.
