Alfred Edens, age 88, of Weber City, VA, departed from this life on January 23, 2018.Alfred worked for the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier before retiring in 1984 after 33 years of service. He was of the Baptist faith and loved to sing gospel music. Alfred was a founding member of the original Holston River Boys Quartet, and he sang first tenor with the group for 18 years. He was a self-taught musician, and he played guitar and banjo with equal ease. As a hobby, he was an accomplished craftsman and artist who specialized in saw painting.He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Mary Agnes (Aggie) Edens; parents, Millard and Myrtle Edens; brother, Phil Edens; and sister, Evada Foor.Those left to cherish Alfred’s memory are; sons, Gary L. (Glenda) Edens of Church Hill, TN, and Larry W. (Peggy) Edens also of Church Hill, TN; daughter, Ella (Mike) McLain of Kingsport, TN; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Frances Thomas and Lena Edens both of Jonesboro, IN.The family would like to publicly extend their much heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the entire staffs of Nova Health and Rehab Center, of Weber City, VA, and Caris Healthcare of Bristol, VA for providing Alfred with optimum comfort and care during his final years and days. Per the family’s request, there will be no visitation or services. Interment will be private with Pastor Aaron Edens officiating.The care of Alfred B.
