Bernice Brickey Ellis, 76, of Church Hill passed away peacefully Sunday, February 9, 2020, at NHC Healthcare, Kingsport.Bernice was born in Fort Blackmore, VA on November 27, 1943, to the late Walter Henry and Myrtle Quillen Brickey.She moved to Kingsport at age 4 and married her late husband, Raymond Lynn Ellis in 1969. Bernice attended Ridgeview Baptist Church, worked at Holston Drug and the sewing factory in Weber City for many years before dedicating her time to caring for her in-laws. Most recently Bernice worked at Pizza Hut and Food City.She enjoyed crocheting blankets so they could be donated to the Hope House and to the Crises Pregnancy Center in Bristol. Bernice knitted scarves, dish clothes, bookmarks and doilies to share with people she met wherever she went.In addition to her parents and husband, Bernice was preceded in death by brother, Norman Douglas Brickey and brother-in-law, Edward Wayne Little.Left to cherish Bernice’s memory are her daughter, Sherri Renee’ Ellis (Matthew Stidams); sister, Joyce Melisa Little; special nephew, Roger Ellis (Michelle); special sisters-in-law, Janie Ellis and Frances Ellis; several other family members and friends.The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 pm, Thursday, February 13, 2020. A Celebration of Bernice’s Life will begin at 7:00 pm in the J. Wayne Hamilton Memorial Chapel of Oak Hill Funeral and Cremation Services with Pastor Jon Rogers and Pastor Eddie McAmis officiating.Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, February 14, 2020 at Will’s Cemetery, Mount Carmel, TN. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at 1:50 pm.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bernice’s honor to Ridgeview Baptist Church, 234 Hurd Rd, Church Hill, TN 37642.The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses and staff of 5th floor of Holston Valley and NHC Healthcare for their kindness and care of Bernice during her stay and especially, Roger and Michelle Ellis for the time and care devoted to Bernice.The care of Bernice Brickey Ellis and her family has been entrusted to the staff of Oak Hill Funeral and Cremation Services.
