Betty Marie “Mammaw” Dyer – KingsportJesus opened the door to heaven on January 4, 2020. She had prepared for the day when Jesus would say, “You’re home, good and faithful one.”Betty was born in Decatur, TN on November 16, 1932, to the late James and Ollie Warf Stokes. She was a member of Port City Baptist Church, formerly Litz Manor Baptist Church but just recently became a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church. Betty worked as a nursing assistant at the University of Tennessee, Medical Center for over 17 years. Betty enjoyed needle point, quilting, word find, working puzzles and cooking. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, William K. Dyer; sisters, Reba Cordell, Mattie Bowman, Elizabeth Stokes and Nettie Price; brothers, Russell and Charles Stokes.Left to cherish Betty’s memory are her daughter, Charlene Murphy (Pat); son, Henry Curtis Price; grandchildren, Christy Price, Natalie Price and Jason Price (Brianna) and Jonathan Murphy (Brandy), Jamie Meadows (Chris) and Josh Murphy; six great-grandchildren, Cade, Austin, Corbin and Averie Price and Dylan and Averi Murphy; brothers, Allen Stokes (Earlene) and Leon Stokes; several nieces and nephews; and her fur baby, Snowflake.A Celebration of Betty’s life will be held at 4:00 pm, Saturday, January 11, 2020 in the J. Wayne Hamilton Memorial Chapel at Oak Hill Funeral and Cremation Services with Pastor Chris Alford officiating. The family will receive friend from 2:00 – 4:00 pm prior in the chapel.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Betty’s honor to Port City Baptist Church, 1383 Dewey Ave., Kingsport or Bethel Presbyterian Church, 1593 Warpath Dr., Kingsport.The care of Betty “Mammaw” Dyer and her family has been entrusted to the staff of Oak Hill Funeral and Cremation Services.
