Billy Joe “Barney” Sims, 63, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord Monday, January 11, 2021, at Holston Valley Medical Center. He was born April 9, 1957, in Kingsport, to the late John and Mary Sims.Billy was a loving, hard-working, tough and stubborn man who never met a stranger. He was dearly loved by his children and grandchildren and was a great son and brother.Billy enjoyed playing the guitar, riding his Gold Wing motorcycle and spending quality time with his family. He retired from the City of Kingsport in Animal Control following seventeen years of service.Billy was a member of Orebank Freewill Baptist Church.In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by his sisters, Marie Winkle, Pauline Mullins and Virginia Barker; brothers, Johnny Sims and Emmitt “Buddy” Sims.Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Raimi Sims; son, Joshua Sims; grandchildren, Skylar Loveday, Hunter Adams, Ava Wills and Emilee Sims; sisters, Jean Osborne, Janie Rogers and Kay Jackson; brothers, Rev. Stanley Sims and Darrell Sims; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 pm Saturday, January 16, 2021, in the chapel of Oak Hill Funeral Home.A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 2:00 pm with Pastor Chris Christian officiating.The Graveside Service will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park in the Garden of the Last Supper.
