Carl K. Cumbow, age 93, of Kingsport, passed away peacefully, Saturday, August 29, 2020, at his home with his loving family by his side.Carl was born in Abingdon, VA, on January 11, 1927, and resided in Kingsport most of his life.He was a Navy veteran and a 20 year member of Calvary Baptist Church. Carl retired from the Kingsport Press, Hawkins County Plant with over 40 years of service.He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. Carl was an avid aviation enthusiast, whose love for flying developed into a most fulfilling hobby of building radio controlled airplanes. His passion of building, flying and the friendships that have developed over the years have proven to be a great accomplishment in Carl’s life.Carl was preceded in death by three siblings, Elsie Price, Leona Ball and John Cumbow.Left to cherish Carl’s memory are his loving wife of 72 years, Patsy Cumbow; daughters, Vicky Stathas and Carla Elliott (Jerry); grandson, Shea Stribling; great-grandchildren, Laila and Gabe Stribling; two step-granddaughters; special friends, Ralph and Betty Fulkerson; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.Military Graveside Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Hammond Post #3 and Gate City Post #265 at 10:00 am, Wednesday, September 2, 2020, in the Garden of the Apostles at East Lawn Memorial Park with Pastor Donnie Brannen officiating. Sendung my deepest sympathy to Patsy & Family. I did not know until now that Carl had passed. He was alway's kind to me & my family. This is Elizabeth Bell "Harold Bell's" daughter Patsy's cousin. Lucille Chase is my grandmother. My mother Rosemary passed away August 31st 2020. Although Carl lived a long life. It is extremely hard to except their absence. It was such a blessing to be able to spend some time getting to know Carl! Carl was an absolute joy to be around. I take comfort knowing that he is with his Lord now. I am praying for comfort for Patsy and the family.

My late father and I met Carl about 45 years ago when we saw him flying model airplanes from the old drag strip east of town. He and my father were the same age, and they hit it off right away. I remember Carl as very friendly and welcoming. After a few years of flying, I haven't seen him since the 1970s, but I still remember his kindness and friendship these many years later.
My sympathies to the entire Cumbow family..
Carl was a kind soul, I loved talking with him, his knowledge of life was a true testament to who he was. He loved his family and I was fortunate to have him as my Uncle. God now has you where you belong with Him and the Angels. Love To all. Randy and Kristen Bacon and our entire family, you’re presence will be missed !
