Carl “Gene” Head, 91, went to be with the Lord at the Blake at Kingsport on Wednesday, October 2, 2019. Gene was born on May 13, 1928, in St. Charles, VA to the late Roy and Dove Head. He began his ministry at an early age, and he pastored churches in Elizabethton, Erwin, Kingsport and Surgoinsville. He established and pastored the first Freewill Baptist in Seabring, FL. Gene was a charter member of First Freewill Baptist Church of Church Hill. One of Gene’s passions was the Freewill Baptist Home for Children in Greenville, TN where he had served on the Board of Directors. He retired from AGC Glass Plant with 42 years of service. He was also preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Ruth; his second wife, Oma; and his brothers, Bill and Bobby Head. Those left to cherish Gene’s memory are his daughter, Phyllis Stimes (Larry); son, Gary Head; stepson, Gary Tucker (Sandra); grandchildren, Larry Campbell, Chuck Campbell, Lisa Campbell, David Head (Jennifer); step-granddaughter, Erica McMurray (Travis); ten great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister, Joyce Gray; and brother, Alfred Head. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday, October 4, 2019 in the J. Wayne Hamilton Memorial Chapel of Oak Hill Funeral & Cremation Services. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 7:00 pm in the chapel with Dr. Ronnie Owens and Rev. Ron Cassidy officiating. A Masonic Service will conducted by the Clay Masonic Lodge #386 F&AM where he was a member for over 60 years. A Graveside Service will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 5, 2019, at East Lawn Memorial Park led by personal family friend, Marvin Tolly. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the graveside at 10:45 am. The family extends their sincere gratitude to the staff of The Blake at Kingsport. He received personal, professional, and amazing care during his time living at The Blake. We cannot praise them enough for how our family has been treated during this special time of need.
