Charles “Charlie” Large, 77, of Kingsport, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2020 after a period of declining health.Born in Knoxville, Charlie moved to Kingsport at a young age, marrying the love of his life, Phyllis Bray, in 1964. Charlie loved being involved in the Kingsport community. He owned/operated Sam’s Package Store for over 46 years, sponsoring Fun Fest Wine Tastings for 25 years. Throughout his life he was an active member of the Lions Club and helped with many local charities. He was a member of the Johnson Masonic Lodge #274 and the Jericho Shrine #80.Charlie never met a stranger and loved spending time with friends and family. He was a member of First Broad Street UMC.Charlie was preceded in death by his father, Charles Large, Jr.Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 56 years, Phyllis Bray Large; daughters, Chere Flanigan and Kristie Moore along with their spouses, Mike Flanigan and Chad Moore; three grandchildren, Leah and Rebecca Moore, Cade Flanigan; his mother, Lois Large; brothers, Larry (Pam) Large and Terry (Sunny) Large; sister-in-law, Margaret Slemp and Norma Bray; aunt Lucy Peltier; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm – 1:45 pm Monday, May 11, 2020 at Oak Hill Funeral and Cremation Services in the J. Wayne Hamilton Memorial Chapel. Due to Covid-19 everyone will be asked to abide by the social distancing guidelines.A Masonic Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm by the Johnson Masonic Lodge #274. A Celebration of Life Service will follow with Pastor Doug Tweed officiating. Music will be provided by Steve and Tracey Edwards.A Private Family Committal Service will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park in the Chapel Mausoleum.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Jericho Temple, PO Box 5548, Kingsport, TN 37663.The care of Charles “Charlie” Large and his family has been entrusted to the staff of Oak Hill Funeral and Cremation Services
