Chester "Check" Southerland

Chester “Check” Southerland, 77, of Kingsport, passed away Saturday, July 10, 2021, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.He was born in Harlan, KY, and lived in Kingsport most of his life.Mr. Southerland retired as a coal miner from Eastover Coal Co. He was a member of Macedonia Free Will Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.Mr. Southerland enjoyed working in his garden, mowing grass and loved spending time with his family.He was preceded in death by three children; his parents, Isaac and Amanda Shoemaker Southerland; sister, Pernie Noe and brothers, William Southerland, Lloyd Southerland and Luther Southerland.Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 56 years, Linda Hall Southerland; son, Chester David “Jr.” Southerland, and wife, Crystal; grandchildren, Kayla Jean Southerland and Caleb Southerland; sister, Juanita Gilbert; brother, Becham Southerland; several nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends from 3:00 pm – 4:45 pm Thursday, July 15, 2021, at Oak Hill Funeral and Cremation Services in the J. Wayne Memorial Chapel.A Funeral Service will follow at 5:00 pm with Pastor Gary Calhoun and Pastor Todd Jennings officiating. A Eulogy will be given by Emmit Smith. Music will be provided by the Downpour Singers.A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 am Friday at Oak Hill Memorial Park in Section “A”. Pallbearers will be Emmit Smith, Brian Davis, Wayne King, Tom Ramey Benny Pugh, Rodney Mullins, Bryon, and Adam Mullins. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:50 am.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family.The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the Doctors and nurses of Caris Healthcare for their compassion and care of Chester Southerland.The care of Chester “Check” Southerland and his family has been entrusted to the staff of Oak Hill Funeral and Cremation Services.Read Obituary
