Clarence Edward Cook, Jr., 88, passed away Monday, May 25, 2020, at Shepherds Care Assisted Living in Greenville, SC.He was born June 26, 1931, in Russell County, VA to the late Clarence and Nannie Cook, Sr. Clarence was a former resident of Kingsport, TN; York, PA; Savannah, GA; Oxford, NC and had lived in Greenville, SC for the past 16 years.“Junior” entered the U.S. Army in 1952 and proudly served in Korea until being badly injured in an explosion in 1953. After recovering in the Tokyo army hospital, he was discharged in June 1954.Clarence was a skilled electrician, draftsman, mechanical engineer, builder, furniture maker and carpenter. He worked as a millwright, welder, manufacturing mechanic, heavy equipment mechanic, and manufacturing production manager before retiring from both Certain-Teed Roofing Company and IAMS Pet Food Company. As a retiree, he enjoyed RV-ing, gardening, playing games (especially golf) and being with family.Throughout his life, and especially in his later years, he was an enthusiastic and generous supporter of missionaries all over the world: buying equipment, sending money, and making missionary trips to assist with building and electrical work in Alaska and Hawaii.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Anna June Jesse Cook (2002).Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Warren Edward Cook (Jean); daughter, Sonja June Gorsline (Douglas); grandchildren, Laura Brundage, (Steven), Esther Nunes, Matthew Cook (Stephanie), Nathanael Gorsline (Krista), Micah Gorsline (Naomi), Abigail Sprankle (Daniel), Benjamin Gorsline (Kendal); great-grandchildren, Jordan Brundage, Madison Brundage, Lacey Cook, Leo Cook, Griffin Cook, Avery Gorsline, Lexi Gorsline, Thor Gorsline, Josey Gorsline, Jayden Gorsline, Audrey Sprankle, and Clarence’s brother, Harold Cook (Juanita).A Military Graveside Service conducted by The American Legion Hammond Post #3 and Gate City, VA Post #265 will be held at 3:00 pm Saturday, June 6, 2020, at Oak Hill Memorial Park in the Garden of Meditation, Kingsport, TN.
