Darlene Speaks, 49, of Gate City, VA passed away Sunday, November 18, 2018, at University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville, VA. She was born December 31, 1968, in Dayton, Ohio to Louey and Sharon Ward Barnette.Darlene was a talented seamstress having worked at The Encounter, Kingsport, specializing in wedding and beauty pageant gowns. She was the previous owner of Tropical Tans & Alterations in Gate City and Lee County, VA.Darlene enjoyed reading and watching movies. She attended Higher Ground Baptist Church.Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Faith Inscore and Ty Barnette; parents, Louey and Sharon Ward Barnette; brother, Ronald Brown.A private family Gathering of Remembrance will be held at a later date at Higher Ground Baptist Church. Dr. Ronnie Owens will officiate.The care of Darlene Speaks and her family has been entrusted to the staff of Oak Hill Funeral & Cremation Services.
