Donald Ray “Don” Taylor, 81, of Kingsport, passed away Saturday, September 22, 2018, at his residence. He was born July 3, 1937, in Scott County, VA to the late John and Eliza Click Taylor.Don was a loving and supportive father and grandfather who was a hero to his daughters. He was a respected businessman in the Tri-Cities area who was always eager to help others who were less fortunate.Mr. Taylor attended Whitney’s School of Business and was the former owner of Don’s Designer Shoes and later became a founding partner of Home Town Mortgage Company. Following retirement, he continued working as a consultant in the mortgage industry.Don was a member of the Kingsport Masonic Lodge #688, Jericho Shrine Temple and the Scottish Rite 33rd Degree. He served on the Board of Directors of the Children’s Burn Hospital, Cincinnati, OH, the Two Ten Foundation and a past President of the Scottish Rite Foundation, Knoxville, TN.He enjoyed all sports and was an avid UT and Atlanta Braves fan. His favorite past-time was playing golf.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Jack Winford Taylor, Eula Frances Taylor Jenkins, Evelyn Taylor Brickey, Helen Ruth Taylor Fleenor, Ralph Logan Taylor, John Thomas Taylor, Bobby L. Taylor and Phyllis Taylor Palmer.Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Teresa Taylor McConnell and Christie Renee Taylor; grandchildren, Donovan James McConnell (Jessica), Drake Landon McConnell, Deidre Lee-Ann McConnell and Dustin Wade McConnell; great-grandchildren, Savanna Hope Dotson, Emma Marie McConnell, Matthew Thomas McConnell and Henry Jacob “Hank” McConnell; brothers, Eddie Wallace Taylor (Carolyn) and James McConnell Taylor (Irene); numerous nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends on Friday, September 28, 2018, from 4:00-6:00 pm in the J. Wayne Hamilton Memorial Chapel of Oak Hill Funeral Home. A Masonic Service will be conducted at 6:00 pm by the Kingsport Masonic Lodge #688. A Celebration of Life Service will follow with Steve Hill, Minister, officiating.A private family Entombment and Committal Service will be held Saturday, September, 29, 2018, at Oak Hill Memorial Park in Mausoleum I.In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in Don’s honor be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 N. Rocky Point Dr., Tampa FL 33607.The care of Donald Ray “Don” Taylor and his family has been entrusted to the staff of Oak Hill Funeral & Cremation Services.
