Ernest Simpson, age 83 of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.Ernest was born in Kingsport where he lived his entire life. He was a veteran of the Korean War where he served as a sergeant in the United States Army. Ernest worked for Giant Food Markets in Kingsport and retired from Food City #603; and Food City Distribution Center. Ernest loved to walk around the neighborhoods meeting and talking to everyone and spending time with his oldest granddaughter, Emily, who he always called his “sweetie pie”!He was preceded in death by his parents, Lit and Minerva Simpson; wife Mary Ruth Lampkins Simpson; brother, Verlin Simpson; sisters, Ola Greene, Ethel Roller, and Gertrude Reed; and one granddaughter Sabrina Simpson.Surviving are his son Michael Simpson and wife Regina of Castlewood, VA; two granddaughters, Emily and Abigail Simpson; a very special sister-in-law Callie Lampkins of Kingsport, TN; and many nieces and nephews.A special thanks to the Kingsport Area Transit System service employees for always keeping a watchful eye on Ernest and Dr. DaSilva, Dr. Shipstone, and nursing staff on the 3rd floor of Wilcox Hall at Holston Valley for their help, caring and understanding; and Dr. Brazee and his staff.Visitation will be conducted from 4-6 p.m. on Tuesday at Oak Hill Funeral Home.Funeral services will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday May 31, 2011 in the J. Wayne Hamilton Memorial Chapel of Oak Hill Funeral Home with Brother Larry Tolley officiating.Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday in Oak Hill Memorial Park. Friends and family are requested to meet at the gravesite no later than 12:50 p.m.The staff of Oak Hill is honored to serve the family of Ernest Simpson.
