Eula—My dearest friend in all the world! I must begin by thanking God for “Master Minding” such a beautiful, complete friendship. Who, but Him, could put in place a bond that blossomed daily, one that expected nothing but gave all? Who, but Him, could connect two hearts that always “smiled” for the other’s good and “bled” at the other’s pain? Who, but Him, could miraculously Place the most giving, the most loving, the most understanding, the most gracious, hospitable lady God ever created into the path of one who was suffering the devastating loss of her husband—one who needed encouragement, one who needed unconditional love that so few can give? Who, but the King, could send me a Queen as my Best Friend?
My precious Eula, what a difference you made in my life! I will always remember the countless hours you listened, treasure your gentleness, your hugs, your beautiful notes, and your “I Love You’s” I will always remember our intense discussions about Christianity, our mutual dislike of CNN, CBS, and Dan Rather, and, oh yes, our inability to understand how “anyone in his right mind could be a Democrat!” Thank you for “giggling” with me, loafing with me, insisting I relax in your “lift chair” while you popped the corn, placing your best throw over me when I fell asleep, and saving your last piece of chocolate just for me! Thank you for making your home “my home—a Place of acceptance, comfort, and “warm fuzzies” to spare!
You touched my life, as you did countless others, in the most beautiful Christ-like ways imaginable. I pray that in some some way, I can become an inspiration to others as you were to me. I hold every precious memory close to my heart, and I thank God for every remembrance of you.
May those who remain to cherish Eula’s memory look forward to seeing her again, where there will never be any more goodbyes, tears, or heartaches!
