Evelyn Faye Salyer, 91, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 9, 2018, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 6, 1926, in Kingsport, to the late Smith and Mae Akers Dixon.Faye was a loving and kind wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She was a committed Christian and a faithful member of Higher Ground Baptist Church and the Mary Sunday School class. Her greatest joy in life was serving the Lord Jesus Christ. She enjoyed reading her Bible and Christian based books. Her hobbies included cross stitching and raising African violets.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ganes Salyer; son, Danny Salyer; step-mother, Mary Lee Dixon; sisters, Irma Wolfe, Jean Barbour, Kathleen McGee and Patsy Grant; brothers, Frank, Jim, Harold, Paul and Michael Dixon.Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Karen Gillispie (Tony); son, Gerald Salyer; sisters, Doris Carucio, Carol O’Hara and Joyce Gwyer; brothers, Robert Dixon and Raymond Dixon; nine grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.The family will receive friends from 5:00-6:45 pm Monday, May 14, 2018, in the J. Wayne Hamilton Memorial Chapel of Oak Hill Funeral & Cremation Services. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 7:00 pm with Dr. Phil Hoskins officiating. Music will be under the direction of The Potters.A Graveside Service will be conducted at 1:00 pm Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood, VA with Rev. Myers Vicars officiating. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Those attending the Graveside Service are asked to meet at Oak Hill Funeral Home by 11:45 am to go in procession to the cemetery.In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in Faye’s honor be made to Higher Ground Baptist Church, 1625 Lynn Garden Drive, Kingsport, TN 37665.
