George Albert Jeter, Jr., 83, of Kingsport, entered into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, April 30, 2020, at his home with his family by his side. He was born on August 24, 1936, in Scott County, Virginia to the late George Albert Jeter, Sr. and Tennessee Pearl Smith Jeter. George was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a loving, kind and selfless man. George was always the first to step up and help anyone in need.He retired from Edwards, Tipton and Witt Insurance Agency with 55 years of service. George was a member of Mafair United Methodist Church.In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his brothers, Jack, Paul “Jim” and Stanley “Chick” Jeter.Those left to cherish George’s memory are his loving wife of 64 years, Iva J. Jeter; son, Michael J. Jeter (Suzanne); daughter, Michelle Jeter Gilbert (Mark); grandchildren, Jeffrey Jeter (Callie), Michael “Mookie” Jeter (Harley), Lydia and Julia Gilbert; great-granddaughter, Charlsie June Jeter; sisters-in-law, Anna B. Jeter and Anita Jeter; several nieces, nephews and cousins; special friend, Tom Wolfe.A private Family Graveside Service will be conducted at Oak Hill Memorial Park with Pastor Adam Love officiating. Full military honors will be conducted by The American Legion Hammond Post #3 and Gate City Post #265.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mafair United Methodist Church, 1409 E Center St, Kingsport, TN 37664.The family extends their sincere gratitude to his nurses, Kathy Visneski and Vicki C. Iva, Mike, and Michelle we wanted you all to know much we thought of George. He was a fine man,great insurance agent, friend to many, and super husband and father. I also know the Lord prepared a place for George after his death because of George's belief in God's promises. You will be in our thoughts and prayers. Iva, I enjoyed so much working with you. You were one of my favorite people to work with. May the Lord give your family peace and strength at this time of loss.

Iva, so sorry to hear of George's death. I got two emails speaking of his passing - one from Bob Dobyns (DB football team) and one from the Class of 1956. You all obviously had a wonderful marriage and so many happy years together. I remember Spanish Class 1954-55 when you first had a crush on him; and from the many complimentary memories listed here about him, your choice was perfect. Take care, Iva, and I love you.

Michael and Suzanne, so sorry to hear of your dad's passing. Sandy and I both dealt with him at Edward's Tipton and Witt. A wonderful and nice man. It's truly a difficult time to go through this.
