H. Virgil Stephens, 81, of Kingsport, passed away Saturday, December 8, 2018, at Select Specialty Hospital, Bristol, TN. He was born March 2, 1937, in Nashville, TN to the late Horace and Blair Allen Stephens, Jr.Virgil was a man of integrity who was extremely loyal to his family, his church, his job and his community. He was a life-long UT fan, an avid golfer and he enjoyed traveling around the world. The birth of his children and watching his grandchildren grow up brought him the greatest joy in life.He received his B.S. Degree in Accounting from the University of Tennessee and his Master’s Degree from E.T.S.U.Mr. Stephens retired as Senior Vice President and C.F.O. of Eastman Chemical Company following nineteen years of service. He served as President of United Way and also served on the Board of Directors of Holston Valley Medical Center.He was a member of the Holston Valley Unitarian Universalist Church, Johnson City, TN and a proud veteran of the U.S. Army.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Allen Stephens.Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 55 years, Clara Bolt Stephens; children, Bill Clark (Narda), Sandy Noonan (Tom) and Eric Stephens (Tanya); grandchildren, Greg Clark, Sam Clark, Daniel Noonan, Kevin Noonan, Mark Noonan, Elizabeth Stephens and Isaiah Stephens; brother, David Stephens (Michele); several nieces.The family will greet guests to share memories from 1:00-2:45 pm Saturday, December 15, 2018, at Holston Valley Unitarian Universalist Church, 136 Bob Jobe Road, Johnson City, TN 37615. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 3:00 pm with Jeff Briere officiating.A private family Inurnment & Committal Service will be conducted in the Chapel Mausoleum at Oak Hill Memorial Park at a later date.In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Holston Valley Unitarian Universalist Church, P.O. Box 8383, Gray, TN 37615 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.The care of H. Virgil Stephens and his family has been entrusted to the staff of Oak Hill Funeral & Cremation Services
