Harriet M. Churchwell, 83, of Kingsport, passed away Tuesday, December 31, 2019, at Wexford House. She was born October 19, 1936, in Abingdon, VA to the late Maurice and Alberta Hutchins.Harriet was a loving, caring, patient and dependable lady who was a committed Christian. She enjoyed cooking, reading, gardening and tending to her flowers. Her greatest joy in life came by spending quality time with her family.Harriet retired as a secretary with Little and Adams Construction Company following twenty-six years of service.She was a member of Saint Luke United Methodist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Dennis Hutchins and her sister, Lita (Jean) Bolton.Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Susan Darnell (Don) and Jennifer Salyers; sons, Gary Churchwell (Karen) and Stephen Churchwell; grandchildren, Jessie (Trever) Rees, Matthew Salyers and Zachary Salyers; great-grandson, Garrett Lee Rees, who was such a joy and blessing; brothers, William V. Hutchins and Larry Hutchins (Carol); several nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends Sunday, January 5, 2020, from 1:00-2:00 pm in the chapel of Oak Hill Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 pm with Pastor Tim Hodges officiating.The Entombment and Committal Service will be conducted Monday, January 6, 2020, at 3:00 pm in Mausoleum IV at Oak Hill Memorial Park.In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Saint Luke United Methodist Church, 2600 East Center Street, Kingsport, TN 37664.The family extends their sincere gratitude to the staffs of Amedysis Hospice, Wexford House, especially Rebecca and Johnny and her church family for their love, kindness, visits and prayers.To leave an online condolence for the family please visit www.oakhillfh.comThe care of Harriet M. CHURCHWELL FAMILY..MAY YOU FEEL THE TOUCH OF THE MASTER'S HAND AS HE GIVES YOU COMFORT AND STRENGTH. HARRIET WAS A WONDERFUL CHRISTIAN PERSON AND WE SANG BESIDE EACH OTHER IN THE CHOIR. SHE LOVED THE MUSIC AND A JOY TO SHARE COMPANIONSHIP WITH. SHE WILL BE MISSED, BUT GRATEFUL SHE IS IN HEAVEN SINGING WITH THE HEAVENLY CHOIR NOW.
