James K. Rhoten, 89 of Kingsport, TN went peacefully to his heavenly home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday evening, October 6, 2019. James was born to the late Kenneth and Grace Necessary Rhoten on November 1, 1929, in Clinchport, VA.He was always very proud of his Scott County “Roots”. James started his career as a General Bindery employee and later worked his way up to a Stamping Operator at the Kingsport Press. Eventually James left the Press to pursue opportunities in Indiana, Maryland and Massachusetts, working as a leading bindery manufacturing executive. James was dedicated to his work and was highly respected by peers and colleagues.Upon retirement, James and his wife Mary purchased farms in Hawkins County TN and Scott County VA then eventually settled down in Kingsport, TN. James enjoyed golfing with his wife Mary as well as the Kingsport Senior League with his brother Jack. James enjoyed traveling the country and abroad to Europe for both business and pleasure but was always happiest at “home”.James was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great-great grandfather, brother and friend. James cherished time with his family and showed his love and generosity to them all. James supported many charities and he had a strong faith in Jesus.Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Jack Rhoten and daughter, Kathy Ensley.Those left to cherish James memory are his loving wife Mary Kay Rhoten; sons, Phillip Rhoten (Juanita), David Rhoten, James Rhoten, Jr.(Janice), Joseph Rhoten (Michelle); daughter, Pam Thomas (Dr. Charles Thomas); 12 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; sisters Patsy Chapman, Jessie Cornett (Carl), Frances Norton (Charles), Judy Holmes (Russell); many nieces, nephews and cousins.The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm – 1:45 pm Friday, October 11, 2019, at Oak Hill Funeral and Cremation Services in the J. Wayne Hamilton Memorial Chapel.A Funeral Service will follow in the chapel with Minister Mike Cornett officiating.A Graveside Service will follow at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, online at www.alz.org/The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors and nurses at Holston Valley Hospital in the Emergency Department and on Wilcox Hall.The care of James Rhoten and his family has been entrusted to Oak Hill Funeral and Cremation Services.
