Jerry Richard Goldsmith, 77, of Kingsport, went to his heavenly home on Thursday, May 14, 2020, with his family by his side. He was born March 7, 1943, in Asheville, N.C. to the late Haskel and Yvonne Goldsmith.Jerry was a twenty-one year veteran of the U.S.A.F. where he retired with the rank of Master Sargent in 1983. Jerry moved to Tennessee with his family in 1991. He loved the outdoors, loved to hunt, fish, garden, listen to and play music and he loved to travel with his family. In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his brothers, Troy, Emmet, Herbert and Bert; sisters, Eva and Blanch.Those left to cherish Jerry’s memory are his loving wife of 54 years, Hanna Goldsmith; daughter, Tammy Goldsmith, son, Charles Goldsmith and wife, Michelle; grandchildren, Troy and Ashli Goldsmith.A Military Rites Committal Service will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2020, at 2:00 pm under the Portico of Oak Hill Funeral Home and will be conducted by the American Legion Hammond Post #3 and Gate City Post #265. I'm Michelle Jerry's daughter in law. First I want to thank Jerry for his 21 years of service in the Air Force we salute you! When I first met Jerry he made myself and his new granddaughter Ashli feel like we were part of the family he had the biggest hugs and a genuine heart. I felt like part of the family the minute I met him. I've been been trying to think of the best memory I have of him and it was hard because there are so many in just the 9 years I've known him. He had so many stories to tell from his childhood, military days and everything in between. We had long talks and I could listen to his stories all day. And those stories are the memories I will hold close to my heart. Although I think he could talk without taking a breath. 😀 We had good times at the gun range, bbqs at the park and at home, Dollywood and many more. He loved his family so much. And Jerry along with Hanna raised an amazing daughter, son and grandson. I am blessed to be married to his son Charles and part of the Goldsmith family. When he called me I would say hello and he would say Hiya...I'm going to miss those phone calls and hearing his voice say Hiya...I love you dad.
