Jessie Juanita Johnson Carpenter

Jessie Juanita Johnson Carpenter, age 93, of Kingsport, TN, passed away on March 20, 2019 in Church Hill, TN.Juanita was born on July 7, 1925, in Tom’s Creek (Wise), VA, the daughter of the late Charles Carter Johnson and Rosie Maxie Thompson Johnson. She was of the Baptist faith. Juanita attended Shoemaker High School in Gate City, VA. As a young woman, Juanita worked at Tennessee Eastman Company (TEC) in the Acetate Yarn Division; Spinning, Bobbing and Winding Department where she met her husband to be. After the birth of her second child she retired to become a homemaker. She was a Red Cross Volunteer and served as a Volunteer Aide in the school clinic at Andrew Johnson Elementary School, and also served as a chaperone for the Dobyns-Bennett High School Band during summer band camp.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Robert John Carpenter; sisters, Ada Cole, Thelma Johnson, Gladys Rudd, Susie Webb, and Opal Busuttil; and brothers, Tom, Ed, Dexter, Charles Jr., and Gus.Juanita is survived by one brother, Grady Johnson of Mechanicsville, VA; one sister, Faye Collier, Chesterfield, VA; daughter, Janice Carter; son, Phillip Carpenter and wife, Betty; and daughter, Rose Anna Bishop and husband, Phillip; grandson, Christopher Carpenter and wife, Kasey; granddaughter, Katie Carpenter; and a host of nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. on Monday, March 25, 2019 in the J. Wayne Hamilton Memorial Chapel of Oak Hill Funeral & Cremation Services.The Funeral Service will be conducted at 2 p.m. in the chapel with Pastor Brent Bradley officiating.The Graveside Service will immediately follow in Section B at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
