Joice (Joy) was born on July 17, 1928 in the Bold Camp Section of Pound, VA.She left Pound in 1945 to work at TN Eastman where she worked 10 years. In 1956 she married Hansford Smith and they began a life of Southern travel as Hansford was an electronics technician with F.A.A.She continued to travel until 1964 when a home was established in Kingsport TN.She remained in her home in Kingsport until her death. She was a faithful member of Fellowship Freewill Baptist Church for 38 years, as long as her health permitted her to attend.The loves of her life were her Lord and Savior, her family, her several grand dogs, hard work, popcorn and NBA basketball.She was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Hansford Smith; parents, Luther and Gracie Baker; brothers, Lovell Baker and Travis Baker; sisters, Ila Baker, Edith Cantrell, Jewell Baker, Frances Hale, and Lena Sutphin.She is survived by daughters, Tamara Smith, and Linda (Kevin) Horne; sister, Jane (J.) Bolling and several nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm – 6:45 pm Tuesday, November 20, 2018, at Fellowship Free Will Baptist Church, 2313 Portland Ave., Kingsport, TN 37660.A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 7:00 pm with Pastor Will Scrivner officiating.A Graveside will be conducted at 11:00 am Wednesday, November 21, 2018, at Oak Hill Memorial Park in the Garden of Last Supper. Honorary Pallbearers will be Eleanor Sue Cantrell, Lavonne Baker and Brenda Depew.Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:50 am.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fellowship Free Will Baptist Church.Her family is grateful for the many kindnesses shown to her by her church family, friends, neighbors, medical care provided by Amedisys Hospice, Dr. Erika Grigg, care givers Brenda Depew, and Lavonne Baker.
