Joseph “Joe” N. Greene, 82, of Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, March 3, 2018 at The Waters of Johnson City after a short illness.Born in Knoxville, TN, he lived his early childhood in Seymour, TN. Joe graduated from Harrison Chilhowee Baptist Academy in Seymour. He was an Air Force veteran serving with the 17th Air Force in Europe (France) in the late ‘50’s. After his military service, he later received an AST Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He moved to Kingsport in the early ‘60’s.Joe was a member of Holy Mountain Baptist Church where he served as leader of the Senior Adult Ministry for several years and served as an usher. He was also active in the Upward Basketball Ministry at the church, serving as Commissioner of Referees.He retired from the Management Engineering Services and Training Department at Holston Defense Corp. after 34 years of service. After retiring, he worked for North West Airlines at the Tri Cities Airport during the initial startup period. During his tenure there, he was responsible for the upkeep and service of the ground equipment the North West Airlines at the airport.Joe was a past member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, Elks and Eagle Lodges. He was a past member of the Board of Directors of the Kingsport Community Chest, past member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilot Association, an active member and an officer of the TSSAA Region One Football Officials Scholarship Endowment Bow. As a football official, he worked as a Head Lineman and officiated in several state play-offs. He designed the logo that is still being used by the Region One Football Officials Association. Joe was an active volunteer at the Exchange Place, working as a tractor driver for hayrides and other chores and activities. He was appointed by Dunn & Bradstreet (NYSE: DND) and accepted to the National Register’s of Who’s Who In Executives and Profession for the 2004 - 2005 year. Joe was currently serving on the Sullivan County Property Maintenance Board of Appeals and was over the Sullivan County Elections. Joe was a loving husband, son, brother and friend. He loved spending time and traveling the world wi.th his wife Dot.He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy H. and Hester Sweet Greene, Sr.; siblings, Dr. Elmer Greene, Gerald Greene, Roy Greene, Jr. and Wayne Greene and a sister, Thelma Reagan. Surviving are his loving wife of 52 years, Dorothy “Dot” Gosnell Greene and several nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 pm Tuesday, March 6, 2018 in the J. Wayne Hamilton Memorial Chapel of Oak Hill Funeral and Cremation Services.A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 7 pm in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Jerry Music and Pastor Tim Price officiating. Music will be provided by Wallace Nelms.Military Entombment Rites by the American Legion Post #3 & Gate City Post #265 will be held at 11 am Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at the Oak Hill III Mausoleum.
