Joyce Ann Quales

November 4, 1943 - June 23, 2022

Joyce Ann Quales, 78, of Gate City, VA went to be with the Lord Thursday, June 23, 2022, at Holston Valley Medical Center. She was born November 4, 1943, in Kingsport, to the late Kyle and Mary McKenzie Moore. Joyce was a loving, kind and compassionate daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister who enjoyed making others laugh. She was an avid doll collector and loved animals. Joyce had worked at the Kingsport Times News for a number of years before retiring to care for her husband, Tom. She attended Pleasant View Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Quales; sister, Roma Jean Franklin. Those left to cherish Joyce’s memory are her daughter, Becky Starnes (John); grandchildren, Kellie Smarr (Will) and J.T. Starnes (Briana); great-grandchildren, Ashtyn Smarr and Emorie Smarr; nieces, Lisa Franklin and Robin Ketron; nephew, Ben Franklin; great-niece, Kaitlyn Ketron; great-nephews, Jace Ketron and Maddox Ketron. A Graveside Service will be conducted Sunday, June 26, 2022, at 12:00 p.m. at Oak Hill Memorial Park in the Garden of Sermon on the Mount. Evangelist Will Smarr will officiate. Those attending are requested to meet at the cemetery by 11:45 a.m. The family extends their sincere gratitude to the Scott County Rescue Squad for their courtesy and prompt care of Joyce.
