Julian Lane Latimer, III, passed away on Wednesday, January 9th, 2019, after a brief stay at Avow Hospice in Naples, Florida at the age of 81. Born July 29, 1937 in Washington, DC, the eldest son of Bill and Ginny Latimer, Lane graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School in 1955 and received his degree from the University of Alabama, majoring in radio and TV broadcasting with a minor in business. Upon graduating, Lane returned to Kingsport where he joined the brokerage firm Abbott, Proctor & Payne. On February 20th, 1965, he married Sherry Wheeler and soon thereafter, the moved to Orlando, FL where he continued his career as broker with Shearson-Hammill. Lane and family returned to their roots in 1970, moving back to Kingsport, TN where he purchased Oak Hill Cemetery. Recognizing the need to provide complete funeral services to the community in one location, in 1979 he built Oak Hill Funeral Home and added the mausoleum to the property. Always active in the community and as a business leader, Lane was president of the Southern Cemetery Association, president of Green Acres Shopping Center, served on the board of directors with Bank of Tennessee, and participated in multiple civic and philanthropic organizations. Lane also followed in his father’s footsteps, serving as President of the Kingsport Chamber of Commerce in 1989.He is survived by his wife Sherry Latimer of Naples, FL, son J. Lane Latimer, IV of Lighthouse Point, FL, grandson Brandon, granddaughters Blair and Lauren.
