Martha Gott, fondly known as “Ma” to many, entered her Heavenly Home on Saturday, August 4, 2018. She was born August 22, 1931. Martha and her family moved to Sullivan Gardens in January 1946. That’s when she met her best friend, soul mate and future husband, Leland Gott. They were 14 & 15 years of age. After six years of courting, they were married November 1, 1952. She was a graduate of Sullivan High School Class of 1951. Martha worked for many years as a Title 1 Teaching Assistant in the Sullivan County School System. She touched the lives of many children at Temple Star, Rock Springs and Gravely Elementary Schools. Martha retired from Gravely Elementary School in 2004. She was a member of Vernon Heights Baptist Church.She was preceded in death by her parents, Finley Horace “Duck” and Emma Cannon; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lott and Myrtle Gott; three sisters, Thelma Lavinder, Beulah Doran and Jean Meade; her brother, William “Bill” Cannon and two sons-in-law, Chester B. Hall, Jr. and Charles “Chick” Hayes.Martha was the happiest when she was at home surrounded by her family. Those left to cherish those memories are her husband of nearly 66 years, James Leland Gott; her four children, Mitzi Hall, Mark Gott and wife, Tracy, Martha Ann Hayes and Marilyn Charlton and husband, John; her six grandchildren, Mary Ann Hayes Hensley, J. Cody Hall, Charles Jacob Hayes, Carrie Beth Hall, William Mark Gott and David Leland Charlton; her great grandson Titus James Hensley and several nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 pm Tuesday, August 7, 2018, at Oak Hill Funeral and Cremation Services in the Fireside Room.A Graveside Service will be held at 1 pm Wednesday, August 8, 2018, at Oak Hill Memorial Park in the Masonic Garden with Rev. Vic Wallace officiating.
