Mattie Bell Hawk

Mattie Bell Hawk, 80, of Pennington Gap, VA, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 18, 2020, at Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon, VA.Mattie was born on February 22, 1939, in Mt. Airy, NC to the late Robert and Ella Thompson, and she had resided in Pennington Gap for most of her life.Mattie enjoyed working in her flower garden, and she loved spending time with her family and friends.In addition to her parents, Mattie was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Billy Joe Hawk, Sr.; one son, Jacky Ray Hawk and one sister and one brother.Those left to cherish Mattie’s memory are her son, B.J. Hawk, Jr. and fiancé, Mary; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several other family members and friends.The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 22, 2020, from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm in the Fireside Room of Oak Hill Funeral & Cremation Services.A Committal Service will follow in the Fireside Room at 3:00 pm with Pastor Chad Roberts officiating.Entombment will be in Oak Hill Mausoleum IV at Oak Hill Memorial Park.The family extends their sincere gratitude to all who cared for Mattie throughout the years.
