Mildred J. Murphey, 82, of Kingsport, passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2019.She was born on August 19, 1936, in Scott County, Virginia to the late Carl and Hazel Murphy. Mildred was an avid Alabama football and Atlanta Braves baseball fan. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Kingsport.Mildred was also preceded in death by her sister, Lucy Murphy.Those left to cherish Mildred’s memory are her sisters, Nancy Bond and Helen Davis; brother, Don Murphy; nephew, Michael Murphy; nieces, Susan Perry and husband Andy, and Courtney Davis. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 2, 2019, from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm in the Fireside Room at Oak Hill Funeral & Cremation Services.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shades of Grace United Methodist Church, 313 E. Sullivan St., Kingsport, TN, 37660.The family extends their sincere gratitude to the staff of Holston Manor and to special friend, Pam Cotterman.The care of Mildred J. I have fond[and old] memories of the Murphy family growing up in Lynn Garden back in the 50's. Lucy and Mildred came down to our house pretty often to visit with my mom. They were both a few yrs older than I was, but I remember them well-great people. I lived down on Forest St[now Dellwood]. That was a great time to grow up, and to this day I still remember the names of all of the neighbors on our streets. It sounds like Mildred had a very enjoyable life, and I am glad for that-she was always very nice to our family and so was Lucy. Please accept my condolences on her passing-she was a fine person.

I remember when I worked at Holston Manor and I would take her snacks at night and she would hug me and hold my hand and just grin from ear-to-ear. I'll sure miss her smile.
Condolences go out to the family. I have no doubt that she will be greatly missed by very many people.

Mildred was my babysitter from the time I was 6 weeks old. I spent many hours at her house and had the best time playing outside with the other kids that she kept. Even when I was old enough to stay on my own, I would still go and spend time with her. She would always call me when she made chicken and dumplings. They were always the best! I will really miss her! She was one great lady! See you later, Mildred!

as you all know, words could never express the love i have for my “byb”. her loss is as much as that of a mother to me. from six weeks old until i was fifteen, she was a daily part of my life. and after that, hunter got to spend three years with her. my life will forever be better because byb was in it. the most faithful person on earth. i will never know another soul who could take her place. in my adult life, our hours of talking on the phone and on her front porch will forever be some of my best days! i will miss her so, so very much!
