Odell Hammonds

Odell Hammonds, 95, of Kingsport, passed away Saturday, December 1, 2018, at Specialty Hospital, Bristol, TN. He was born July 10, 1923, in Scott County, VA to the late Newt and Virgie McDavid Hammonds.Odell was a loving father and papaw who enjoyed life to the fullest and never met a stranger. He was a devoted caregiver to his wife, Ruth for many years. He enjoyed gardening, visiting Gatlinburg and was an avid cat lover. He was especially fond of his cat, “Tigger.”Mr. Hammonds was the owner/operator of West View Cab Company for over forty years. He attended Bethel Apostolic Church, Kingsport.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Sellers Hammonds; infant son, Bradley; brothers, Bill, Ray, Johnny and Bradley Hammonds; sisters, Lula Jennings and Lizzie Tipton; sons-in-law, Ed Galloway and Melvin Crowe.Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Sybil Galloway, Sue Conkin (Jackie) and Angela Seaver (Bobby); sons, Larry Hammonds and David Hammonds; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren; sisters, Nannie Jones, Ettie Spivey and Shirley Tipton (Coy); brothers, Bob Hammonds (Lynn), Ben Hammonds (Marie), Jim Hammonds and Gene Hammonds; sister-in-law, Louise Hammonds; numerous nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 4, 2018, from 5:00-7:00 pm in the J. Wayne Hamilton Memorial Chapel of Oak Hill Funeral & Cremation Services or anytime at the residence of his daughter, Angela Seaver.A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted Wednesday, December 5, 2018, at 1:00 pm in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Mike Stout officiating. Music will be under the direction of the True Faith Quartet.An Entombment & Committal Service will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park in Mausoleum II.A special thank you is extended to the Sellers and Hammonds families and a special friend, Rita Fugate for their love, prayers and compassionate care of our father.The care of Odell Hammonds and his family has been entrusted to the staff of Oak Hill Funeral & Cremation Services.Read Obituary
