Rose E. Miller Brooks entered glory on Sunday morning, February 25, 2018, following a brief illness. She was born on February 9, 1933, in Scott County, VA, and was a 1951 graduate of Shoemaker High School (now Gate City High School). Rose began work for Intermountain Telephone Company as an operator, and later was promoted to supervisor of the Toll Department. In 1954, she married Thomas L. Brooks (Tom Brooks Exxon Service Center and Tiger Lube).In 1956, she left the telephone company and welcomed the birth of her daughter, Mary Tom (Mimi). Rose enjoyed a successful career in the hospitality industry, first managing the Downtowner Motor Inn in Kingsport, then opening and managing Holiday Inns in the East Tennessee/Southwest Virginia region, and later the Kingsport Camara Inn. She had her second child, Thomas L. “Tiger” Brooks, Jr. in 1970. Rose left the hospitality industry in 1974 to concentrate on her children and some of her favorite activities – cooking, gardening, and entertaining friends. She travelled extensively with her husband of 60 years, before his passing in 2014. The couple had a passion for following University of Tennessee football, and were avid supporters of Dobyns-Bennett athletics. They were also members of the Kingsport Commodore Club, where Rose often used her gift of entertaining to plan parties and trips for the club.Rose was a member of Indian Springs Baptist Church.She was preceded in death by her father, K.J. Miller; mother, Bertha Miller; an infant brother, Vilder Ray Miller; a sister, Vonda Mae Miller Jones; and her husband Thomas L. Brooks.Surviving are her daughter, Mary Tom “Mimi” Younger, and husband Garry; son Thomas L. “Tiger” Brooks, Jr., and wife Paige; grandson, Aubrey Younger, and wife Eryn; granddaughters, Abbey Rose Younger and Ellie Marie Brooks; one sister, Sue Luethke, and husband Fred; several beloved nieces and nephews.The family would like to express special thanks for the loving care provided to them by the staff of W-3 (Wilcox Hall) at Holston Valley Medical Center.The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 1, 2018, at the Glenwood Campus of Indian Springs Baptist Church, 2601 East Center Street in Kingsport from 5 until 7 pm. The funeral service will begin at 7:00 pm with Dr. Thomas L. “Tiger” Brooks, Jr. officiating, and music provided by the Music Ministry of ISBC Glenwood.Graveside services will be held on Friday, March 2, 2018, at 11:00 am at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Family and friends are asked to gather at the gravesite beginning at 10:45 am. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Indian Springs Baptist Church, 325 Hill Road, Kingsport, TN 37664.The care of Rose E.
