Shirley Wooten Dorton, 83, of Limestone, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 with her family by her side. Shirley was born in Kingsport on June 22, 1936 to the late John C. and Marie Sims Wooten.She enjoyed gardening and grew the prettiest roses and orchids. Mrs. Dorton loved to cook, especially soup beans and corn bread. In her early years, she enjoyed traveling with her husband and friends. Mrs. Dorton loved her fur babies, was an avid NASCAR fan. In her later years, she was a Vols football and basketball fan, and a U.S. Men’s Soccer team fan.She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Howard Dorton; brother, John C. Wooten, Jr. and sisters, Imogene Queen and Loretta Light.Those left to cherish Shirley’s memory are her loving children, Denise Phipps, Alyssa Humphreys and husband, Jarrett, son, John Dorton and wife, Lynn and Valerie Dorton; grandchildren, Sean Phipps and wife, Monica, Grant Phipps and girlfriend, Haleigh, Haley Munson and husband, Brett, Hunter Dorton and wife, Rachel, Carter Dorton and wife, Kenoa, Stuart Humphreys and girlfriend, Kim, Spencer Humphreys and Maddie Dorton Lee; great grandchildren, Drew, Kelsey, Grayson and Josie Dorton and numerous nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends on Monday September 9, 2019 from 1:00 pm – 1:45 pm at Oak Hill Funeral & Cremation Services in the J. Wayne Hamilton Memorial Chapel.A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 2:00 pm with her grandson, Sean Phipps delivering the eulogy. Mrs. Dorton will be laid to rest in the Oak Hill Mausoleum I.The family extends their sincere gratitude to everyone at Amedysis Home Healthcare and all of her nurses for their compassion and care and her special friends, Robin and Myron Bernard and Melissa and Shawn Morelock.The care of Shirley Wooten Dorton and her family has been entrusted to the staff of Oak Hill Funeral & Cremation Services.
