Syble S. Marcum

Syble S. Marcum, 83, of Kingsport, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 26, 2019, at her home with her family by her side.Syble was born in Scott County, VA to the late John and Addie Peters on September 17, 1936. She was a graduate of Gate City High School in 1953, and retired from United Telephone Company with 32 years of service. Syble was a loving and devoted Christian, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed sewing and attending church functions.In addition to her parents, Syble was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Peters and several half-siblings.Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 57 years, George Marcum; son, Alan Marcum (Mary Beth); grandchildren, Joshua Marcum, Addie Ruth Marcum, Maggie Marcum, Noah Marcum and Lowell George Marcum; great-grandsons, Eli and Ethan; sister, Violeta Blankenship; half-sister, Zella Collins; brother, Roy Peters; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 pm, Sunday, December 1, 2019, in the J. Wayne Hamilton Memorial Chapel. Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 pm with Pastor David Powers officiating.Graveside Services will immediately follow in the Garden of Resurrection at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church, 2118 Bloomingdale Road, Kingsport, TN 37660.The family extends their sincere gratitude to Pastor David Powers and the congregation of Emmanuel for their love, prayers and many acts of kindness.The family would also like to thank Syble’s caregiver, Lynn Chandler for the kindness, care and compassion shown through this difficult time.The care of Syble S.
