Thelma Ruth Bishop Newton, 86, of Kingsport, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, July 7, 2019, with her loving family by her side.Ruth was born in Kingsport, TN on October 4, 1932, to the late Clinton and Blanche Bishop. She was a lifelong resident of Lynn Garden and a graduate of Lynn View High School. Ruth had been a member of Morrison City Christian Church for 77 years. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother and a friend to all. Ruth loved watching the birds as they ate from her bird feeders.She was also preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.Those left to cherish Ruth’s memory are her loving and devoted husband of 66 years, Charles Roy Newton; daughters, Diane Newton and Sarah Brown (Larry); son, Alan Newton (Gail); six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; sisters, Peggy Lay (Roy) and Sue Elrod (Butch); several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive.The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Wednesday, July 10, 2019, in the J. Wayne Hamilton Memorial Chapel of Oak Hill Funeral & Cremation Services.A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 7:00 pm in the chapel with Bob Underwood, Minister officiating.A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, July 11, 2019, at Oak Hill Memorial Park in Section N. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the graveside at 10:45 am.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Morrison City Christian Church, 1940 Darnell Dr., Kingsport, TN 37665. I was so sorry to hear of Ruth’s passing. She was truly a child of God - a devoted Christian. She will be missed greatly. I have so many fond memories of Ruth and Morrison City Christian Church. I pray God will grant you strength, comfort and peace during this most difficult time.

I have known Ruth since I was a child attending MCCC. She always had a beautiful smile and hug for everyone. Her favorite song was "Beautiful Star of Bethlehem" and to me she was a shining star and now her star is shining even more beautiful for all who knew her.
I attended Morrison City Christian Church with Ruth for 40 years. I do not know how this started, however about 20 years ago, I complimented Ruth on the color of her dress. From then on, each Sunday we would complement each other on the colors we wore to church. She would say, "Bob, that shirt is my favorite color."--no matter the color. And I would return the complement. Ruth was a wonderful person and I will certainly miss her. My prayers are to her family.
