Thomas D. Smalling III, 79, of Kingsport, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2019. Mr. Smalling was born on April 5, 1940, in Kingsport, to the late Thomas D. Smalling, Jr. and Mary Belle Good Smalling. He was an Air Force Veteran and retired from Eastman with 31 years of service. Tom was a very kind, generous and loving husband, brother, uncle and friend to all. Tom married Gay Mull, the love of his life and spent 49 wonderful years together. She and Tom resided in Kingsport most of their lives but spent 11 years in south Florida before returning home to be near family. Tom loved his sports cars and owned several corvettes and a bright yellow Viper over the years.Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 49 years, Gay Smalling; sister, Sharon Simpson (Clarence); brothers, Phil Smalling (Paula) and John Mark Smalling; several nieces, nephews, cousins and all of his extended friends and family in south Florida.The family will receive friends from 1:00 -2:00pm, Sunday May 5, 2019, in the chapel at Oak Hill Funeral and Cremation Services.A Celebration of Tom’s Life will begin at 2:00pm with Rev. James W. Hulse officiating. Entombment will be held in Mausoleum IV in Oak Hill Memorial Park.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Smalling’s honor to St. Jude’s by visiting stjude.org or Alzheimer’s Association by visiting alz.org.The family would like to extend their extreme gratitude to caregiver, Brandon Stissel and to the staff of Amedisys Hospice for the kindness and compassion through this difficult time.The care of Thomas D.
