Viola Duckett Miller, 88, formerly of Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully and joined the Lord on Tuesday, March 6, 2018, in Kingsport, Tennessee. Viola was born to Dock and Pinola (Presnell) Duckett in Hartford, Tennessee. She was a former member of Kirk Hills Presbyterian Church in Knoxville, where over several decades and at various times she faithfully served as nursery coordinator, choir member, deacon, and elder. In recent years she was a member of Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church in Kingsport. She was a retired employee of Washington Pike United Methodist Church in Knoxville where she enjoyed many years of devoted service. Viola also showed her love of people and community through her many volunteer activities – as a Brownie and Girl Scout leader, visiting the ill and elderly, and as a volunteer at various organizations and numerous neighborhood events. As her mobility decreased in recent years, she phased in a robust and much-appreciated greeting card and telephone outreach to her friends and loved ones. She had a lively, inquisitive, and humorous personality and was well-known for her bright smile and amazingly positive attitude. She was a kind person with a sharp mind and a deep and abiding Christian faith, and among her spiritual gifts were discernment, encouragement, and service. She loved the outdoors and nature and in her younger years enthusiastically hiked and camped with church and family, maintained a plentiful vegetable and fruit garden, and nurtured one of the prettiest yards on her street with abundant and vibrant flowers and shrubs. She intensely appreciated all kinds of music and for many years was a keen fan of WIVK radio and its many concerts. In the late 1990’s she became a passionate fan and supporter of WDVX radio in Knoxville, with bluegrass music being her special favorite. She was predeceased by her parents; Dock and Pinola Duckett; sisters, Virginia Decker, Della Fling, Edith Turner, and Ila Lee Hodge; brothers, Homer Duckett, Hugh L. Duckett, Patton Duckett, Charles Duckett; and her ex-husband, Auton N. Miller.
