William “Bill” Herron, age 84, of Kingsport, Tennessee, formerly of Flagstaff, Arizona, passed away Dec 24, 2022, after a short.Bill grew up in Phoenix, Arizona arriving in 1949, where he attended Brophy High School. He graduated Phoenix College in 1961 with an AA degree. Work soon took him to live in Flagstaff, Arizona where he lived for many years. Genealogy was one of his hobbies and it led to him moving to Tennessee to reconnect with his relatives. He took immense pride and joy in discovering his “kin” He lived in Kingsport, Tennessee where he enjoyed meeting for lunches with his friends and tinkering with model railroad engines and cars and reading book after book after book.Bill was a member of the Arizona National Guard for 26 years and was extremely proud of his service and his country.Bill made everyone who knew him laugh, cry, and clap at all the stories he shared. Our family is grateful to know that he is finally at peace. He is survived by his brother Paul, his wife Carol and their two sons William Brian and Kenneth. Carol, I so sorry to hear about Bill. I am one of his first cousins. My father George William Herron, Sr was James’s brother. I am the youngest of the Herron girls. It was a pleasure meeting you and Bill. Yes , he made everyone laugh. I took him to Jonesbourgh, Tn , one day to see the oldest town in Tn. We had a lot of fun. I am sending prayers to you.
My condolences to Carol, Paul and Bill’s sons. I met Bill in the mid 1950s when his family would shop in my fathers small record store in Phoenix. They would spend most of the day with us playing records and talking with my dad and me. It was an outing. Later in 1960 I joined a Phoenix College fraternity that Bill was the president of and was a guest at his wedding to Carol. Bill loved music, movies, books, trains, acting, cowboys, food, funny jokes, and friendship. He was always upbeat and fast to laugh. He was proud of his military service and a loving husband. We didn’t talk much in our later years but always kept in contact. We will always remember Bill as one of the good ones and there is a place in heaven for him.
He was a good man, we will miss him. Covid has kept families apart. Prayers for his family.
